Raised in Calgary, Alberta, Scott Duncan is an energetic, passionate performer. He enjoys playing all styles, including Celtic, bluegrass, folk, classical, swing, country, Cajun, French-Canadian & other regional folk styles, and singer/songwriter accompaniment, both live and in the studio.
Beginning when he was 5 years old, Scott grew up in the dual classical/fiddle world – studying at the Mount Royal College Conservatory for 10 years, and touring with the Calgary Fiddlers until he was 18. At the conservatory, he was involved in the Academy Program which included private lessons, history & theory, composition, accompaniment, master classes, recitals, and orchestral work with the Calgary Youth Orchestra, and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
With the Calgary Fiddlers, Scott did his first tour when he was 11, and continued to perform and tour with them until he graduated from high school. He then collaborated with the group’s directors on their new venture which became the fiddle sensation Barrage. For the first 5 years of its existence, Scott toured and performed with Barrage and was heavily involved in its promotion (radio, TV, DVDs).
After Barrage, Scott toured and recorded with the Polyjesters for 3 years, and has since been freelancing with numerous artists such as Linda McRae, T. Buckley, and Heather Blush. Currently he can be seen playing regularly with John Wort Hannam (past 7 years), Staggered Pints (an Irish Pub Band), Steve Fisher, The June Bugs, Matt Patershuk, and others.
In addition to the live shows, Scott can be heard on over 30 recordings of many of the artists with whom he plays, and some he doesn't yet... including Ian Tyson's new album Carnero Vaquero.
With many new, original tunes based on traditional styles, Scott continues to showcase an instrument whose voice and versatility pleases even the most seasoned fan. His first popular original tune Falling Down enjoyed radio play from a recording with Fairhaven, and was subsequently recorded by other groups. Falling Down and other tunes are regularly played by a few different groups and individuals, and are now available in Scott's new tunebook, released in 2015.
